Congo Peace Academy (CPA) is an independent center for peacebuilding, social research, and community innovation advancing peace, applied research, and social innovation in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Great Lakes Region. We help transform conflict-affected communities into resilient, inclusive, and prosperous societies by combining local leadership, evidence-based research, institutional strengthening, and innovative livelihood solutions. Through this approach, CPA generates knowledge, empowers communities, and develops scalable, locally driven solutions to the root causes of conflict, poverty, inequality, and social exclusion.
We do not simply deliver projects; we cultivate ideas, strengthen institutions, and empower communities to lead their own transformation.
Congo Peace Academy is an independent, non-profit organization advancing peace, resilience, and inclusive development across the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Great Lakes Region. Founded on the belief that lasting peace requires more than humanitarian response, CPA combines research, innovation, technical expertise, and grassroots action to help communities build sustainable futures.
We serve as a bridge between local realities and global knowledge, connecting communities, researchers, policymakers, development partners, and entrepreneurs to co-create practical and scalable solutions.
Our work is driven by one conviction:
Peace is not merely the absence of conflict; it is the presence of opportunity, justice, dignity, and hope.
A peaceful, resilient, and prosperous Congo where empowered communities, guided by knowledge and innovation, drive their own sustainable development and contribute to a more just and peaceful world.
To advance peace, social justice, and sustainable development through research, innovation, technical advisory services, and community-driven action that strengthens local leadership, expands economic opportunities, and builds resilient societies.
CPA believes that sustainable peace emerges when communities possess the knowledge, skills, resources, and institutions necessary to address the structural drivers of conflict and poverty.
By investing in local leadership, generating evidence for action, strengthening community institutions, promoting entrepreneurship and climate resilience, and fostering inclusive dialogue, we enable communities to become architects of their own future.
Our approach integrates four mutually reinforcing dimensions:
Knowledge Generation through applied research, conflict analysis, data collection, and continuous learning that produce evidence to inform policy, improve programs, and guide community-led solutions.
Innovation & Technical Excellence through the design and delivery of practical, context-specific approaches, technical advisory services, and innovative tools that address local development and peacebuilding challenges.
Community Empowerment through strengthening local leadership, expanding access to education and skills development, and creating economic opportunities that enable individuals and communities to shape their own future.
Systems Transformation through strategic partnerships, policy engagement, advocacy, and institutional strengthening that reinforce inclusive governance, resilient local institutions, and sustainable long-term impact.
Through Agri Peace (Agriculture for Peace and Prosperity), we harness regenerative, climate-smart agriculture and the conservation farming principles of Foundations for Farming to strengthen food security, restore degraded ecosystems, and create sustainable livelihoods. By reducing competition over scarce resources, expanding economic opportunities, and fostering collaboration among communities, we use agriculture as a practical tool for peacebuilding, helping transform rural landscapes into foundations for resilience, social cohesion, and shared prosperity.
CPA conducts applied research, conflict analysis, baseline, midline, and endline studies, project evaluations and capitalizations, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL), policy analysis, and knowledge production to inform better decisions and more effective humanitarian and development practice. We also strengthen the capacities of humanitarian and development actors through training, technical accompaniment, and organizational learning, helping improve the quality, effectiveness, and long-term impact of interventions across conflict-affected and development contexts.
We facilitate inclusive dialogue and participatory peace processes that help communities transform conflict into opportunities for collaboration and shared progress. We focus on strengthening the relationships, institutions, and social structures that sustain long-term peace. We promote empathetic listening, mutual understanding, and constructive engagement that address underlying needs and build trust across divides. Our programs support communities in developing locally led solutions that strengthen social cohesion, resilience, and the foundations for peaceful and inclusive societies.
We provide technical assistance and strategic advisory services to civil society organizations, governments, development agencies, academic institutions, and social enterprises. We support partners in program and project design, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) systems, applied research, data collection and analysis, organizational development, policy and strategy development, capacity strengthening, and community engagement. We also promote knowledge exchange, institutional learning, and evidence-based decision-making to help organizations develop innovative, locally grounded, and sustainable solutions to complex development and peacebuilding challenges.
We are expanding access to leadership development, green economy opportunities, agro-entrepreneurship, market-relevant vocational and digital skills, and financial inclusion for youth and women. Through skills training, mentorship, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable value chain development, and stronger support networks, we help young people and women build the confidence and capabilities to create resilient livelihoods. We promote entrepreneurial mindsets, practical business and agribusiness skills, and stronger connections to local markets, green jobs, and emerging economic opportunities, contributing to inclusive growth, environmental stewardship, and lasting social impact.
We strengthen communities through civic education, life-skills training, digital inclusion, community organizing, and locally led initiatives that promote dignity and participation. Guided by our Path to the Future vision, we see education as a pathway to opportunity, empowerment, and community transformation. We invest in leadership development, career readiness, mentorship, scholarships, and access to learning and professional networks that help young people and emerging leaders reach their potential. At the heart of this approach is a spirit of service, encouraging those who gain knowledge and opportunity to use their skills to uplift communities.
Agri Peace Idjwi is Congo Peace Academy’s flagship social innovation platform, reimagining agriculture as an engine for peacebuilding, climate resilience, and inclusive local prosperity. Rather than treating farming, conflict resolution, and economic development as separate challenges, the initiative integrates them into a single community-led model where regenerative agriculture, entrepreneurship, and social cohesion reinforce one another.
Every conservation agriculture training, demonstration plot, and farmer field school doubles as a space for dialogue, collaborative problem-solving, and local leadership development, helping communities address the interconnected pressures of conflict, poverty, food insecurity, youth unemployment, and environmental degradation. Inspired by proven approaches such as Foundations for Farming, B2R Farms, and Crown’s African Money Map, and strengthened through locally driven research and innovation, Agri Peace Idjwi adapts global knowledge to local realities.
Through living laboratories, farmer cooperatives, youth and women enterprise networks, and participatory learning systems, the initiative cultivates more than productive land; it nurtures trust, strengthens community institutions, accelerates rural innovation, and builds resilient local economies where peace and prosperity can take root and grow together.
True transformation begins with people; their ideas, skills, and commitment to building a brighter future. At Congo Peace Academy, we see this transformation daily. Through education, young leaders gain the confidence and vision to drive change in their communities. Farmers learn sustainable agriculture techniques that turn barren land into thriving fields, creating stability and opportunity.
When you support Congo Peace Academy, you’re investing in community-led solutions that transform the root causes of conflict into lasting resilience. Through education that cultivates leaders, agricultural training that ensures food security, entrepreneurship that generates sustainable livelihoods, and dialogues that foster reconciliation, we empower communities to build a future of peace and opportunity.
